Top 10 Cryptocurrencies Right Now: Regulation, Burns and Upgrades Drive the Board

2026-07-24

Right, let's have a look at the board. Same names near the top as usual, but the reasons they're moving are getting more interesting than the usual "number go up" story. Regulation, supply burns, network upgrades - it's actually a decent week for people who like their crypto news with some substance to it.

Bitcoin still sits where it always sits, hoovering up 58-59% of the total market. It pushed above $66,600, the highest in over a month, riding out its July rebound. Bitfinex's lot reckon $68,000 is the line in the sand - clear that and the rally has legs, fail and we're back to chopping sideways. K33's Vetle Lunde is calling this a "summer slumber" market, which is a nice way of saying ETF flows have steadied but nobody's actually excited yet. The whole thing is basically waiting on Congress and its market-structure bill.

Ethereum holds second spot at roughly 10% dominance, trading in the high-$1,800s, and for once the price action isn't the story. Tom Lee over at BitMine has been banging on about the CLARITY Act mattering specifically to Ethereum - regulatory clarity, he says, is exactly what smart contract platforms need to benefit properly. There's also a detail buried in the bill that would lock in staking yield for ETH ETFs, which is a bigger deal than it sounds given how fast that spot ETF market is growing.

Tether just keeps doing what Tether does - being the plumbing everyone uses without anyone really talking about it. Stablecoin volume hit $71.95 billion in 24 hours recently, which is more than 100% of that day's total crypto volume. No price drama, no headlines, just quietly running the whole show underneath everyone else.

XRP has had the week of its year. Reports say Trump agreed to the ethics provision that had been holding the CLARITY Act hostage in the Senate, and XRP - which had been lagging the broader recovery below $1.13 - finally cracked that resistance. It's sitting around $1.14 now, still down 39.46% year to date, versus Bitcoin's 25.3% drop. The whole bill might hinge on whether the White House discloses Trump's crypto earnings by Senator Warren's July 23 deadline, so don't get too comfortable with that breakout.

BNB just torched its biggest chunk of supply ever. Binance's 36th quarterly Auto-Burn on July 15 removed 1.62 million BNB, worth about $932 million, bringing circulating supply down to roughly 133.16 million. Traders are eyeing it as a breakout trigger, and the chain itself keeps growing regardless - stablecoin cap on BNB Chain is past $17.8 billion, TVL up near $5 billion.

Solana is stuck in the mid-$70s price-wise but the institutional interest is building nicely. Morgan Stanley filed for a spot Solana ETF, ticker MSOL, fee of 0.14%. On the tech side there's progress on Agave v4.1.0, the Firedancer client, and Alpenglow work aiming for roughly 150 millisecond finality. Meanwhile spot DEX volume on Solana passed $10.29 billion, overtaking the NYSE American, thanks largely to retail piling into tokenized equities.

USD Coin rounds out the stablecoin double act with USDT, still the settlement rail of choice for institutional DeFi. Nothing dramatic to report, which is rather the point - it just keeps holding its ground while everything else swings around it.

TRON leans on the same trick it always does: stablecoin settlement dominance. Anchorage integration, over $85 billion in on-chain USDT, $1.2 billion in protocol revenue in Q3 2025. And a recent SEC/CFTC token taxonomy call cleared up TRX as a commodity, taking some legal weight off its shoulders right as CLARITY Act talk heats up.

Dogecoin is doing what Dogecoin does - trading near $0.07, market cap around $12.7 billion, and moody as ever. The 21Shares TDOG is set to follow on Nasdaq in January 2026, the first product with Dogecoin Foundation backing and proper SEC-cleared spot exposure. Meanwhile the Fear & Greed Index has it sat at 25, "Extreme Fear", so sentiment and institutional plumbing are pulling in opposite directions.

Cardano closes out the ten on a quiet but telling note. ADA-linked ETFs pulled in $37.2 million in net inflows during 2025, according to Blockworks, actually beating TRON on that front. Price is going nowhere fast, holding near $0.164-$0.166 support, but the money moving in behind the scenes tells a different story to the chart.
