Trump-Linked Account Gets Compromised (Or Did It?), GOLD Token Nukes 98% in Hours
2026-08-29Saturday, August 29, 2026. A token called Trump Digital GOLD launched on Solana and promptly died. Lost 98% of its value in hours. Classic.
The backstory's where it gets messy. A verified X account called @realtrumpcoins1—claims to be an official Trump Organisation partner, 42,300 followers, blue tick and everything—hyped this thing hard. Problem: nobody in the Trump family had any idea it existed. Or so they said. Eric Trump had literally denied any new coin launch a week prior, on August 22. "What a joke… This is absolutely not true. No one is launching any kind of coin," he posted. Hard to walk that back.
The token peaked at $50 million in market cap. Then cratered to $770,000. Gone.
What actually happened? That's where on-chain analysts like Lookonchain earned their keep. The developer controlled 600 million GOLD tokens. Fifteen new wallets appeared from nowhere, dropped $18,657 combined, grabbed 224.5 million tokens, and immediately dumped the lot. Turned $18,657 into $330,000 in profit. That's a 17x return. For a token that was dead within hours.
Either @realtrumpcoins1's account got hacked—account compromise, classic attack vector in the meme coin space—or someone inside that account was running a deliberate exit scam. The account nuked its promotional posts without explanation. Real confidence-inspiring stuff.
This isn't even the weirdest part. The website realtrumpcoins.com—not the Trump Organisation's official domain, note—kept pumping GOLD. Promised 4% trading fees and claimed it'd spend 99% of those fees on buybacks. Meanwhile, the domain registration changed the same day the token launched. The checkout page died. Researcher Rune caught all of it.
What makes this worse? It's not new. The Trump family's crypto ventures have been an absolute bloodbath. Earlier this year, TRUMP and MELANIA coins tanked 92% and nearly 99% respectively. Four point three billion dollars of retail investor money evaporated. Gone. And now here's GOLD following the same script.
Compromised verified accounts pumping fake Solana tokens? Happens all the time. Solana's meme coin ecosystem moves fast enough that by the time you've figured out what happened, your money's already gone. The speed, the anonymity, the lack of regulation—that's the whole attraction for scammers.
Was this a hacked account or a deliberate scam using the Trump name? Probably doesn't matter much to the people who bought at the peak. They're down 98% either way.
